In honor of the passing of the great American feminist poet, Adrienne Rich, whose stated mission was to "create a society without domination," the director of my agency shared with us this poem yesterday at staff meeting.
My heart is moved by all I cannot save:
so much has been destroyed
I have to cast my lot with those
who age after age, perversely,
with no extraordinary power,
reconstitute the world.
